Carl's Outdoor Hunting and Fishing News
Hunting season 2007 thus far has been the year of
the WOMEN. Janet bow hunted hard thru October,
passing on a 24" wide 9 point mule deer at the
Jasper Ranch, near Ft. Stockton. This deer was
only 3 1/2 years old, with great potential if he can
grow up a couple more years. Janet arrowed a nice
boar javelina the 2nd weekend of bow season,
making a great shot on the little tusker, he only
traveled about 40 yards before expiring. On
opening morning of mule deer season, hunting with
her young guide Cody Herber, she spotted a wide 8
point mule deer coming in thru the fog. Cody
assured her it was a mature deer, and she made a
great shot on her best deer to date. The muley is an
8 point main frame, w/ a kicker on it's left g-2. 24"
wide and with 6" bases it quickly racked up a gross
B&C score of 149 1/8".
Friends and fellow hunters Dianne and Bill Gunter
were out for the Thanksgiving/mule deer opener as
well. Dianne also scored on Saturday morning, with
her expert guide and handsome husband Bill(I was
paid to write that), directing her to another beautiful
mature 8 point mule deer. Dianne made a
spectacular 225 yard shot, harvesting her 1st
racked buck.
James(supervisor, criminal mastermind, bi-sexual)
and Amy Huff also were out for the great weekend.
James was able to take pictures of a mature, heavy
basket racked 10 point mule deer, and Amy was
anxious to take this buck on Saturday morning. The
buck had different plans, and didn't show in the
morning, but Amy hung in for the long haul, hunting
for him all day long. Despite James' whining that he
was cold, and hungry, Amy beat him into submission
making him suck it up and stay in the blind. Late in
the afternoon, in the blowing snow, Amy made a
nice shot, and took her 1st deer. Great job Amy!
Bill Gunter also guided the younger ladies Emily
and Alexis,(aka Toyota) hunting in the snowstorm.
Although they had several huge deer pass by their
deer blind, these deer went unnoticed, as the guide
was too busy attempting to light the propane heater
to properly guide these pretty hunters. Oh well, at
least they were warm.
Along with the great hunting, we were lucky enough
to have a snow storm come in late Saturday
afternoon, dropping 12or mor einches of snow,
turning the ranch into a beautiful winter wonderland.
